Craft a Saleable Nonfiction Book Proposal

An E-class Taught by Christina Katz

Class Begins on June 4th
Most writers underestimate the comprehensiveness needed in a book proposal that will garner the interest of agents and editors. They also mistake the definition of platform and importance of alining their proposal to a solid track record. A two-time author, Christina has helped hundreds of nonfiction writers succeed over the past seven years. Now she’s making her proposal-writing advice available in a six-week e-mail course to aspiring authors who want to nail the proposal the first time around.
Cost: $199.00. [Only time at this price.]

Don’t Forget: A List

Don’t forget that Friday, Leap Day, is the last day to send in your receipt for a new copy of Writer Mama that you got this month to get the essay markets. You may forward your receipt to: “writer mama 2 at earthlink dot net”

Don’t forget that the week to submit your application for the next full scholarship for Writing and Publishing The Short Stuff is between March 9-March 16th. I’ll announce the application requirements on March 8th. Please pass it on!

Don’t forget that the next round of classes starts April 16th. I’ll be offering WPSS and Pitching Practice. (I’ve decided to hold off on Platform Building Basics until August 20th. I’ll update the classes page soon.)

Don’t forget that I’m raising the price of WPSS in August to $199.00. Sign up for April for your last chance to get the less expensive price.

Don’t forget (okay, you probably didn’t know this) the WPSS class will likely be full by the time of the scholarship winner announcement) so don’t plan to try for the scholarship first and then sign up for the class if you don’t win. The scholarship is only for folks who truly cannot afford the class. :)

Don’t forget to keep aiming higher and higher and higher…that’s the path to success!

Last Chance, Low Price: Writing & Publishing the Short Stuff

Well, mamas. Over the years I’ve consistently kept the prices for my e-classes low.

But it’s gotten to the point where I regularly hear that my classes are so much better than other classes and that I need to raise my price.

So, I’d say it’s time. :)

Over the holidays, I asked myself, “How can I help the writer mamas I teach even more?”

The decision was to add markets to each of the six workbook chapters. Now that I’ve worked with Cindy Hudson to accomplish this, I’d say the value of the class has quadrupled (not that you don’t also have to work hard, I’m still a taskmaster).

So, as of August 20, 2008, the price of all of my classes will be $199.00.

I will continue to offer one scholarship for WPSS each class session.

If you want to get in on the new upgraded class at the old price, the last chance to do so is the April 16th class, which is already filling up.

When the registrations started pouring in, I thought I’d better announce it.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Let’s Resolve The Sell Out Myth Once and For All

In Targeting Your Best Writing Markets, one of the many things we will explore is how and why succeeding as a writer does not necessarily equal selling out.

In other words, we’ll explore why and how The Sell Out Myth is baloney. Especially when it comes out of the mouths of successful writers.

What those obsessed with The Sell Out Myth are really talking about is their belief that being a writer means that writers should:

a. starve

b. suffer

c. act crazy (and justify it)

d. point your finger at others

In Targeting Your Best Writing Markets, I will demonstrate how insidious and damaging The Sell Out Myth is to you and, potentially, in your relationships with other writers and writing-related professionals.

More on Targeting Your Best Writing Markets is here.

Calling All Former WPSS Students!

The February 13th WPSS Class is Full

I’m looking forward to working with those who have signed up!

If you are interested in Writing and Publishing the Short Stuff, please sign up for the April 16th-May 28th class here.

Thanks!

I’m pleased to announce that the value of the class has gone up, with the addition of sample markets for each week’s lesson. Special thanks to Cindy Hudson for her help making the class better than ever!

(I like to think it gets better every time, but it’s taking a quantum leap this February 13th.)

Only a Few Spots Left in the February 13th WPSS Class

I hate to disappoint people if they miss the cutoff, so I’m letting you know.

Here’s the info about the two classes that start on February 13th: Writing and Publishing the Short Stuff (Especially for Moms) and Targeting Your Best Writing Markets.

If you want to see the complete 2008 schedule, it’s here.

Here’s a few of testimonials from recent students:

“Writing and Publishing the Short Stuff has given me the knowledge and momentum needed to get my writing career off to a fast, successful start. Sharing ideas, resources, and proven methods, Christina’s positive attitude is contagious and reverberates throughout each weekly assignment. Christina’s book, Writer Mama, How to Raise a Writing Career Alongside Your Kids, is a guidebook written just for me!” ~ Joanne D., Gainsville, Florida

“This class is like hiring a personal trainer for your writing. Christina showed us how to set small achievable goals and in order to get results you have to make the effort. No skipping a work-out.” ~ Heidi L., Vancouver, Washington

“After reading books about freelancing and how to break into national magazines, I was overwhelmed. Then I took How to Write the Short Stuff and Christina connected the dots for me.  After six weeks of classes, I had a new game plan.  Now I feel confident that I’ll see my name in a national magazine without having to take out a classified ad to accomplish that goal!” ~ Laura B., Fort Collins, Colorado
