News, news, and more news…

Well, there has been a lot going on in the blogosphere, not to mention the world, while I’ve been busy with the giveaway and all my usual obligations. So thought I’d do a little list of wonderful news:

1. Two of my very good friends are now moms! This IS exciting for both of them and for their families (and friends, too!).

Sage Cohen gave birth to Theodore (Theo) Robertson Luchs-Cohen. He was born Wednesday, September 17 at 11:40 a.m. weighing 8 lbs, 14 oz and measuring 20.5 inches long.

And Kristin Bair O’Keeffee and her husband Andrew traveled from Shanghai to Vietnam (actually from Maine to Shanghai to Vietnam but that’s another story) to pick up their long-awaited daughter, Tulliver (Tully) Quinn Loan O’Keeffe. She is beautiful. 🙂

You can read up on both moms’ adventures (and misadventures) on their respective blogs:

Shanghai Adventures of a Trailing Spouse

Yay, babies!

2. Writer Mama received a kick-butt review in my graduate school alumni magazine, Demo 7, from Columbia College Chicago. You can read the review by Christine Simokaitis here.

3. My wonderful editor, Jane Friedman, has been promoted to Publisher & Editorial Director of the F+W writing communities. I’m so happy for her! She is totally deserving of this promotion and will bring her intuitive vision, excellent judgment, and ten years of veteran experience to the job.

4. My equally wonderful agent, Rita Rosenkranz, was featured in today and guess which of her clients’ books she decided to feature with her profile?

Did you guess yet?

5. I’m blogging on platform development over at Scott Francis’ blog, The M-Word, at My favorite part is the typos. I’m used to being able to correct those as I go. Oh, well.

6. Writer’s Daily listed Writers on the Rise in the recommended top five e-newsletters.

7. And under bragging rights, I’ve been invited to teach a workshop at Wordstock Festival of Books this year. I will offer “Nonfiction Writing Rhythms” on Saturday, Nov. 8th from 12:45-1:45 PM.

Congratulations to the new moms and Way To Go Christina!

You are definitely a success story, proving the power of blogs and loyal Internet communities to power marketing and public relations efforts. This reminds me of Waren Buffet’s favorite saying (also reflected in the title of his new book, “The Snowball”): “Life is like a snowball; the important thing is finding wet snow and a really long hill.”

You generously provide a world of support to mamas who have the passion to write but don’t know how to turn that passion into a business. And you introduce other authors and bloggers to your audience — helping the authors promote products and Writer Mamas find resources.

Hold onto your hat, Christina, because your snowball is going to cause an avalanche of good press and opportunities for Writer Mamas everywhere.

Wonderful news all the way around. Congrats again! (The babies are beautiful – looking at Tully made me cry blissful tears – remembering the moments when each of my younger three were placed in my arms – )

Thanks, ladies. Mar, you are too kind. Thanks to all of you for participating so fully. It’s really the participation that makes the giveaway tick!
